SPECTAREAL: Media in Your Mind
27 May 21 June 2002
A contemporary art exhibition exploring the impact of the mass media on our perception of reality.
MA Gallery Studies students from the University of Essex present an exhibition of contemporary art, which explores the impact of mass media on our perception of reality.
This stimulating exhibition focuses on the way the mass media have the tendency to turn reality into entertainment and spectacle by exposing everything to the light of information and communication. These blurring borders of reality and spectacle will be examined through a selection of contemporary artworks, which focus on this concept and express various positions within its field.
This exciting show will present this current social situation through a selection of contemporary works of art, including photographs, video, and projections, and will be supported by a series of events and educational programmes such as talks, guided tours, workshops, film projection and others.
SpectaReal: Media in your Mind will aim to encourage people to reflect on the distinctions between those two poles, and to generate a debate about this subject.
